Dear Jazz Friends

I'm pleased to report that last week we welcomed back to the fold our trombonist Pete Middleton, who has been out of action for a while with cracked ribs!  Just in time to join us for some appealing Sunset Cafe concert dates fast approaching:-

This coming Friday we'll be performing our acclaimed "Talking the Talk, Walking the Walk" programme at St Michael's church, Galmington, Taunton.  The following week it's "Tiny, Jelly and the Duke" at Ilminster Arts; it's always great to visit this welcoming venue.  In July the excellent Marlene Hill joins us at Dorchester Arts to sing jazz, blues and gospel.  If you haven't heard Marlene sing before, don't miss this one!

On 2 July I'll be back at Cheap Street church, Sherborne. My guest this time, 'returning by popular demand', is ace boogie woogie man, Julian Phillips.  We'll be sharing the Steinway for ragtime and boogie, including solos and some exciting four-hand stuff.  We've had great audiences at Cheap Street this year - thank you all very much.  And a particular thank you to the volunteers at this and other venues who enable it all to happen.

Talking of volunteers, in July I'll be visiting two thriving jazz clubs run by delightful, enterprising ladies: Jane at Uffculme is hosting the ebullient Julia Titus to sing the vaudeville blues, accompanied by myself and Steve Graham.  And Tina at Dalwood has booked the Sunset Cafe band;  I'm hoping Tina will join me for a piano duet!

Looking forward to seeing you soon

Mike
